Water dinosaur- a.k.a The Snapping turtle

Oh the snapping turtle.

These are beautiful, and once you understand them, you being to appreciate their beauty and how prehistoric they look.

Snapping turtles can grow to be quite large, and are quite intimidating, but in the water, they will swim away from any threats. THEY ONLY SNAP WHEN THEY ARE THREATENED WHILE ON LAND. The snapping is suppose to scare you away, but if, say a finger, gets in there, it can cause some serious damage-remember they have extraordinarily long necks.

I have also included a video of how to safely pick up a snapping turtle-this is important to know if you happen to come across one trying to get to the other side of the road-so help out when you can and be safe.

To find the species page, check under the reptile heading at the top of the page.

Keep on learning and look out for all our wildlife friends!
